I have an Eheim 2080 on a 54 gallon corner aquarium. The filter has too much flow, so I set it to about 3/4 flow. My issue is that the 2080 theoretically should be way oversized for the tank and there's still a bunch of stuff floating in the water. For the first few months the water was clear, but more recently it doesn't seem like the filter is working great. It still has tons of flow and I just cleaned it the other day to be sure. I just have the blue prefilter pad, all three trays filled with biomedia, and the fine filter pad and a 50 micron pad I cut to fit. Do you think there's something wrong with the filter? Do you think the flow is just too much and is just rolling the stuff off the front glass, so it never makes it to the filter intakes? I've been wondering about replacing the biomedia in the bottom tray with some kind of mechanical media, but I'd think the fine filter pad would be stopping anything from going through the filter. I also considered making a custom spraybar that spread the flow out and lessened it. What do you think? Thanks.

One problem with the 2080 is it has two intakes, so each intake has half the suction power of the rated filter. Which in my experience of it being on my 75G is not that much. If you want to reduce the flow rate coming out of the spray bar you can buy the extension kit and simply add another length or two on the end.

You are gravel vacc'ing too right? Cant rely on the filter to get all the crap out of the tank.

Yeah. Just got a aqueon water changer to make the vacuuming easier. Since it's the corner tank I considered making a spraybar that went down both back walls to really spread it out. My concern was the water was maybe moving too fast when it goes by the intake that it can't suck the stuff up.
