Hi Everyone,

I need your help..Last week I turned on my FX5 after I did a water change and was working nicely. The following morning, it was making a strange high pitch sound. I was on my way to work and did not have time to check on it so I shut it off. Today, I did a water change and I took apart the FX5. I found a little bit of sand inside the pump and cleaned it up. I turned on the pump and it started making the same high pitch sound again but it was running. The pump is currently shut off so that it doesn't get worse. Does anyone know what is going on? When I have time, I plan to dismantle the whole thing, inspect the pump, and rinse it all the parts. If you have any suggestions or know what the cause of the noise is please let me know.

Thank you in advance,

Ceejay

Sounds like you have sand in the impeler as this happened to mine and had to buy a new impeler assembly, when you take it apart check the impeler for sideways play and the black part on top of the impeler rocks a little on the shaft but not a lot on the new one hth.

Yeah, be careful, my motor unit came loose, only 2 screws but, that basically stopped the impeller because it was a little sideways. If had come any more loose, it would have sprung a leak. Take it all apart and clean it and make sure its in solid and tight screws.

Thanks everyone. I wil take it apart this coming weekend when I have more time. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know..thanks again.

I disassembled my FX5 last weekend and rinsed the entire unit. I removed everything and rinsed everything. I started it and the high pitch noise is no longer there.

thanks again everyone for your input!
