Hi all,
My goldfish has red sores all over it's body especially at the bottom of the fins and on the side.
It's a bit floaty too.
I have treated it with two course of maracyn2 but seem to have gotten worse.
Anyone have any other medication to recommend and what might be the cause of this?

Judging from the red in the tail it is stressed but of course that can mean anything. What are all the water parameters? What are its tank mates if any? How old is it? Where did you buy it from? What do you feed it? How big is the tank and what is the filtration?

His tail was already curly when I got him from the fish shop. His activity, feeding and behaviour were all as per normal for the past 2 weeks despite the sores on his body. It is only the last 2 days that he became listless. No ammonia and nitrites, I did not test for nitrates. Tank mates are 1 ranchu, 1 oranda, and 3 corydoras in a 55G tank. I bought him from the same fish shop a year ago as the 2 other goldfishes. The other fishes are all ok. The tank is filtered by a fluval filter at 700L/HR. Water changes 50% once a week. They are all on Hiraki sinking pellets and peas trice a week.

The fish has hemorrhagic septicemia. Can you post water perameters? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH? This will help determine the best med to use. Also being in Singapore i'm not sure what is avaiable to you.

I am sorry for your loss. Please do another water change ASAP. You do not want what ever that fish had when you bought it to spread to the others. The hemorrhaging can be caused by a number of things as stated above that were well beyond your control. Like you said when you bought it it had these issues started. When they die the disease can spread very quickly as the cause of the issues 'abandon ship'. I have bought fish when I felt sorry for it or something of the sort. It turned out fatal for that fish and some others as the disease spread. I have learned over the years to always use my quarantine tank as I can be a sucker for something new. I keep specialty goldfish in some of my tanks. They get very large. A 55 is ultimately only big enough for 2.

When a fish has internal issues they can go along pretty well till one day they start to get overwhelmed by what ever is going on. When a fish has a disease then one transfers them they get stressed and the fishes body looses more ground to that disease and it can be enough in time for that fish to out kick the bucket some weeks later. I try to quarantine for 4 to 6 weeks. I am lucky to have the room for lotsa tanks.
