I recently purchased a pseudopimelodus Apurensis and have found it hard to find any info about their care. I've found some on monstercatfish.com but not much. I'd like to know any info on their personality, hardyness and about suitable companions. I put him with a Oscar, Flowerhorn and Red Devil but it's not working out. The cichlids keep attacking him and he already has two wounds that I hope he'll recover from. He's quickly becoming my favorite and I don' t want to lose him. I had originally thought I would have to worry about him consuming the cichlids so it was quite a surprise when he was on the receiving end of an attack. Please help.
Please note that Pseudopimelodus apurensis is now Cephalosiluris apurensis. (Same is true of P. fowleri, now C. fowleri.) Here's the info from Planet Catfish on C. apurensis:
Note the max size of 12 inches is incorrect. I know of a hobbyist with a 20 inch C. apurensis. I have a 13 inch apurensis. Very cool catfish, but it will swallow anything that looks reasonably close to fitting in its mouth.
