As mentioned in another post, my lap and my buettekoferi got into it a few days ago. I'm beginning to worry about the lap - I have her all set up in a hospital tank... but the eye is getting worse. I'm sorry I don't have pictures so I'll do the best I can to describe it. Imagine one of those big goldfish at the LFS with those big bubble eyes that give you the huge urge to poke the eye with a needle... it's somewhat like that. It protrudes from the laps face 1/4'', it's clouded over like a cataract (if you squint hard enough you can see the real eye beneath)... and recently it almost looks like it's rotting off. I can tell by looking at it that the top part of the swelling or of the cataract or whatever it is is falling off... in a film almost that hangs off the eyeball. It also looks like it's bleeding, and an open wound. Part of me thinks I should help the stupid thing fall off but I know that's not right. What medication should I use on this to prevent infection? I totally understand that Lucy will probably only have one eye when this is all said and done, and that's fine... I have a del who's doing amazing with one eye. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate them.

Well you could do a melafix/pimafix combo as a preventitive or go hard core with maracyn or maracyn-2 there are of course other anti-biotics that you could use-Anne

I was worried about melafix... I had an angelfish once that had an open wound on it, and when I dosed with the melafix I could tell it caused it more pain. Did the angel spaz for no reason or is melafix no bueno for open wounds?
