My 3 year old son and I are setting up my smaller tank. I'm not sure how many gallons the tank is but it measures H18"xW48"xD11.5".

I picked this up from a buddy who needed some money. I paid him 40 bucks for the tank only. I've resealed the corners and i'm letting them dry for a couple of days before we fill it for the first time.

Today we picked up two hood/light combos, 200w heater and a marineland biowheel filter rated for 70 gallons and a bunch of colorful fake plants. My wife's choice. I'll try to get some pictures up in the next day or so.

I currently have 3 blood parrots that are rather large in my 120g tank that i'll be moving into this tank. My questions are what can I pair up with these fish. My son must have a new pleco (his old one died and we've been telling him he must be behind the rocks) and he wants a little catfish.

If we add those two fish will we have room to add anything else like a jack dempsey or Lethrinops Intermedius or Rhoadesii. I was thinking of 1 fish or a group of small fish. I know my parrots will mess with the small fish though.

It sounds like you are taking three large fish out of a 120 and putting them in a 55 and you want to add more fish to the 55????? Is that the ??

Pretty much. They are 6" long or so each. I almost wish I could just get rid of these 3 parrots and get something else for that tank. But i'm too nice to kill them.

Bioload vs filtration You could try to keep the blood parrots in a 55 with 25 % water changes everyday and wait until they die or start over a 55 is a starter tank keep the 120 for the blood parrots and let your 3 year start on his own.

So it sounds like it's not a good idea at all to put them in the smaller tank even if it's just the three of them. I think the best option is to give them away. They've been great fish for me but after 8-9 years of them i'm sick of them. I got them when they were the size of a quarter.

I would move them on to another home (list on craigslist or check your local pet store for a trade or to take them) and then get some fish that you really want to have. A 55 is really limited in the what you can keep as far as CA/SA Cichlids unless you plan on moving them over to the larger tank once they get a good size which is always a good option. I'm using my 29 as a starter tank, then move them to the 75 and finally end up in the 220 and i love it.

If you are wanting something for the life of the tank it's a matter of what you are looking for in temperment. Rams and firemouths are great cichlids that don't get to large and even convicts are nice to watch with the babies and such. If you can give some fish that interest you, then we can better understanding of what to suggest.

I would put some natural gravel or sand in it with a piece of driftwood and a bunch of realistic fake plants. Paint the back of tank black. Stock it with a ton of rainbows, tetras, and maybe a couple big angels as main fish. Throw in a spotted angelica catfish for the bottm. I think it would be a nice little tank

Sounds like you have the dual penguin bio-wheel. as a "You can never have to much filtration" I would suggest returning the filter and getting an emperor 400 ( the bio-wheel is bigger and ime they last longer and work more efficently then the penguins) I bought mine offa Amazon.

def agree on the stocking suggestion 3 blood parrots in a 55 is maxed out.
