I just picked up three 4" wild caughts and the guy i bought them from said his tank dropped in temp one night and they have ick. he treated with quick cure for two days before shipping. when i recieved them their body was cloudy looking and had white stringy stuff that looked like skin peeling or something. he said that was due to the meds in water during shippment. i didnt really see anything that i could identify as ick. it looked like a lil skin peeling or possibly fungus. Also the tail fins were damaged, which i thought was due to previous aggression. so i put them into a 29 gal tank for quarantine, with dividers.
Day one i continued quick cure(light dose).
Day two:25% WC and added salt and pimafix.
Day three: nothing. Two of them are clearing up good and becoming active.
Day four: same as day two.
Day five: the two are looking a lot better and fins starting to heal. they arn't eatin much;lil flakes, bloodworms, and brine shrimp. but they are eating. I havent noticed third one eat at all. and it hides all the time so hard to monitor. but I did notice that the third one isn't getting better. Tail fin looks completely gone and has fungus growing. so i immediately did 25% wc and added fungus clear by Jungle.

So I am going to remove third one and put into 10 gal tank so i can isolate illness and treat singularily. My question is can i treat with fungus clear and meds for fin rot at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially since they are rare and i paid a great amount of money for them. thanks Jason here is a pic, its not the best but you can see some of the skin/or fungus on head.

Should be ok.....

Battle scares from the shipping.

Just keep up with water changes and you'll be good.

Today is day 6. i am moving sick one into 10 gal. that way the other two can continue coming around without exposure to meds. So Ill be treating sick with meds. and ill update daily. thanks

Oh great. If ich is not evident, then he obviously misdiagnosed the situation. Fungal infections are hard to come by. I do not believe what you are battling against is fungal infection (saprolegnia). If fungal infection was involved, the Quick Cure wherein malachite green is one of its active ingredients should have resolved that by now. Isolate the fish and go with a combination of Maracyn (erythromycin) and Maracyn 2 (minocycline) to help with the suspected bacterial infection.

Thank you Lupin. Ill post some better pics so you can get a better look. today i treated with T.C. Tetracycline, pimafix, and wc. i also have fish isolated. Is there anything i should be doing with other two? they are recovering and healing from whatever it was. so all i did for them today was wc, salt, and melifix. thanks Jason

Looks like columnaris. I'd stick to tetracycline if it is working well fo you. Your other alternative is combining Maracyn and Maracyn 2 if it does not improve after two weeks. I'd ditch the rest except water changes and perhaps salt. Please stop adding more chemicals or you will end up harming them more than help.

Ok thank you. I just started tetracycline so i dont know it will work or not. and i will quit everything else. so should i stick with tetra? the instuctions say treat then again in 24hrs then wait another 24 and do wc then repeat. how long should i medicate? thanks

Give treatment a week or two. If it improves steadily, continue until two weeks is up. I would steer clear of other treatments for now although packing the alternatives in the cabinet is not a bad idea in case they are needed.

Some meds degrade in water after 24 hours so a redose is indeed needed. While you're at it, I'd take advantage of doing daily water changes. I always do that to help maintain clean water for the fish.

Good luck and please keep us updated.:)

K.I.A. She barely made it 12hrs in hospital tank:( I dont know what happened. Im thinkin it was the transfer into tank that applied additional stress that killed her. The other too are actively swimming and being social, they are eating a lil bit more each day. I really hope they dont relapse. especially since i will be leaving town for a couple of weeks for work. so my wife will be caring for them, and hopefully she will keep a good eye on them for me.
