i want to do a mangrove swamp, the fish will be ether swordspine or false red terror. i'm not sure what plants can be in the brakish water and that the fish won't distroy. there both SA fish.oh yea the tank will be tween 120-200g

Mangroves are going to be about it. Very few commonly available plants will survive long term in brackish conditions.

Turtle grass and eel grass are marine/brackish water plants but thats about it. I don't know what part of Georgia you live in, but if you get out to the coast, look around some of the saltwater marshes. Just make sure that you don't take anything illegally.

I've also heard of Java fern being used with mixed results.

If you go to a full marine setup there lots of interesting types of macro algae.

ok thanks. how many mangroves would you recemend for the size of tank i have.

i might go SW probley go from brakish to SW.

would these work they had them on http://www.azgardens.com/ listed under brakish habitat packet.

Along with this FAQ:

I'm gathering that you really can't go above 1.005 spg and even then they just do "okay"

I'm not sure if macro algae will survive in brackish or not, but you can achieve a planted tank look without the plants. Here's an old thread I came across a couple years ago:

http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=49943&view=findpost&p=508339

Most of his pics of the process are gone but there are a couple nice shots.

Also here;s a link to RC's marine plants and macro algae forum. Def some great looking tanks there:

Hope this helps.
