hi fellow mfkers

i need help in the positioning of my uv lamp filter in my sump. in my sump, there is sponge, aquaclay, lava rock, ceramic and ammonia remover. i was thinking about placing the sponge first then just after to put the uv filter, instead of putting the uv filter after all the media filter. i am wondering if i put it after the media filter, the uv lamp may kill the good bacteria. so thats why i put the uv after the sponge but before the media. any advise?

thx a lot

i got a uv lamp without the isolating tube. i can buy one with the in and outing tube. however there is no difference for my problem. do i put if before or after media filter?

You're planning on running a UV light just in the sump with no cover on it? Sorry, having trouble understanding what you're saying.

UVs should always be placed last after your mechanical filters. You want the water as mechanically clean as possible when it passes through the UV.

exactly what i was thinking. to put the uv after the mechanical but before the biological so that it does not kill the good bacteria. i just wanted a confirmation. thx

You'd be surprised... I remember a tank a while back where a kid had a UV bulb in the lighting fixture for his tank instead of a normal light bulb.
