I'll be getting ready to fire up my sump soon, but need some help on plant selection for my refugium. I also need to know what type of sand or mud to use.

It's a small section of the sump (9wx12Lx14h) that I want to use, just to help with nitrates. The sump is setup with the filtration on one side, return in the middle and refug. on the other side. The inlet is T'ed off with a valve on the filter side and a valve on the refug. side. Thanks.

My next sump build will have a refuge with lots of java moss, bamboo, & a few other fast growing low light plants.

Since I have a small area for a refug, will a piece of driftwood covered in java moss work?

Just buy as much java moss as you can fit in the refuge. The wood will do nothing but take up space.

i have a 550 G tank that utilizes the Miracle Mud filtration system. It has been up and running for about 5 months now and i have never had any reading of nitrates/nitrites or ammonia. this tank is HEAVILY STOCKED with literally hundreds of fish.

In short, i highly recommend this set up.
