Hey guys im new to MFK, just wanted to ask for a diagnosis on my gold severum. He's about 5-6" and over the past three weeks he has developed dark colorations on his sides, he also has some white blob shapes on his pectral fins, the last thing is that he has been shaking his body and acting like he is coughing up something but nothing comes out of his mouth, i do not believe he is choking because he still eats regularly..

Please help me out guys id appreciate it very much

raise your temps to 86+ and look up epsom salt dosing and start doing that just to be sure it isn't ick I haven't seen a fish shake or look like its vomiting but the spots could be ich and it is something that is easy to cure and the treatment isnt harmful to the fish. not sure what else it could be but i'm sure someone else will know better

Any chance of a photo? Dark colorations could be a chemical burn (e.g., high ammonia) or if it is grey splotches could be costia a parasite or it could be black spot a parasite as well. Blobs on the fins.... are they cotton like or like grains of salt? Grains could be ich and cotton blobs likely fungus. A photo would be really helpful. I think the behavior all counts as flashing. Something is irritating this fish. I would start with big and frequent water changes. Do you test your water? What is your maintenance like? Anyway, water needs to be pristine and then a photo to this or the emergency section should be next. Good luck.
