i just got a 150 off a buddy and i wana make the stand i have been searching the web and seen many different ways i have seen ppl cut 45 deg angles for the corners and then i see ppl keeping them flat whats the best way to go and how much longer do i want the bords then the tank like 1 inch

vertical is best!!! it uses gravity rather than strength of nails or srews, which weekens over time. i would say build a stud wall box and sheet it with finish quallity plywood and moulding, then stain or paint. this is cheap and very very strong. the whole second story and roof of my house, along with most peoples houses are supported by the same principle. check out my stand for my 300 in the 300 gallon diy thread, thats how i built my stand.

oh yeah, personally i hate a stand that is bigger than the tank, i made mine the exact foot print then am covering up the seem with moulding. really it doesn't matter structurally, it just comes down to taste and trust in you skills that you can make it very close to exact.

You can also look at my DIY 110G thread. I rely on vertical posts to support the weight of the tank. I like to build my stand fairly colse to the dimension of the tank. Always give a little for the fudge factor. say 1/8-1/4"

i agree , Vertical tank to floor..

45 degree angles are for non-load-bearing points.. Skirting, Doors, etc.
