need help with sump tank

Wow, that looks like a mess. On my sump setup I only used 2 and half 90s, 18 inches of 3/4 inch pipe and a 1 1/2 inch pea trap and they were only for the overflow. I also drilled it into an old HOB filter and it runs into a fern living in river rocks. That drains into a 5 gallon trickle bucket which drains into a 20L aquarium. Then a pond pump pushes everything back up.

Start over, it'll be much cleaner and simpler than using a bunch of scraps.
 
plus there is alot of holes in my tanks overflow.... theres like 6 2 holes dont have any plumbing connected at all lol

lol i dont even know how this sump will work but if you can think of any ideas how this will work go for it and give me some ideas lol
