Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm a member of AquariaCentral, but the forums are down right now.

Anyway, I just got a free 37 gallon, fully loaded, but it also came with 3 Silver dollars. Unfortunately my dad left the heater (not a problem right now) and filter in the car from work, so I can't set up the tank yet.

Right now I have the 3 fish in a bucket with a power filter. The filter is to keep the water aggitated more than it is to keep it clean.

Will these guys be ok in there until I set up the tank tomorrow?

I have a 20g long with: Betta, 7 Zebra Danios, 6 Neons, and 3 BN Plecos.
My 10g has 6 Harlies, Betta, and 7 snails
Other 10g has 2 juvie guppies and 1 dwarf Gourami, more snails, and possibly RCS (they might have been eaten).

What should I to do try to keep the Silver Dollars alive until I can set up the tank tomorrow? Will they be fine in the bucket for now? I took out the filter from the Betta 10g. Will that tank be fine until tomorrow with no filtration or water aggitation?

Should I put some water in the 37 tank and put the SDs in there even without a filter?

Should I put 1, 2, or 3 in the tank 10g tank with the Betta?

All 3 of my established tank have plants, so I'm hesitant to put the SDs in there.

Sorry for the long read and so many questions. I just want these guys to make it.

Depending on how big they are i'd be afraid of them eating/harassing the neons or betta, but im not really a silver dollar expert. I wouldn't put them in the 37 gallon with out a filter because the oxygen will get very depleted and ammonia will build up. If you cant put them in your 20 or 10, you might be better off leaving them in the bucket and doing partial water changes until you get them in the new tank.

BTW welcome to MFK, try and stick around even when AC comes back up :)

Dont know muchabout silver dollars. Havent kept any since i was a kid but I dont think it would be a prob to put them in the 20g if its only for a day or two. They should be okay in the bucket too if you keep the light low or completely in the dark but i wouldnt keep them there for more than a day.

They are at least 2 years old, according to the guy they are full grown. I didn't really get a chance to look at them since my dad picked em up and they were bagged in ziplock bags looking miserable. One of them was upside down. I got them out ASAP.

I'm going to do a WC then now, and one tomorrow morning, and so on until I can get the filter in the 37g. Hopefully there is some bacteria left in there, so the cycle is quick and WCs low.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll definitely stick around. Lots of crazy big setups and fish here. I feel inadequate.

I put my answers in blue to make it easier :-)

Good move there.

They should be if they're under 3-4". Do a 50-70% water change on the bucket before you go to bed and don't feed. Otherwise do a couple lesser water changes before you go to bed.

Just what you're doing now.

Will they be fine in the bucket for now?
Yep.

I took out the filter from the Betta 10g. Will that tank be fine until tomorrow with no filtration or water aggitation?
I wouldn't risk that at all. The Betta would be just fine. I don't know what a "harlie" is, but if it's some sort of fish (and not a snail) I'd be concerned about them. (If they're fish) can they go in one of the other tanks for now? If they're snails they'll be fine.

Should I put some water in the 37g tank and put the SDs in there even without a filter?
No, don't do that. GYou can go ahead and set up the 37g and get water in there but just to age it overnight and leave less work to do tomorrow.

Should I put 1, 2, or 3 in the 10g tank with the Betta?
Not worth the trouble if you'll have the 37 g set up tomorrow.

With good reason. In the morning you'd have 3 fat Dollars and no planats.

The biggest problem I see is it doesn't sound like you're going to have a cycled filter for the Silver Dolloars. If it had been cycled when the tank was given to you it's not going to be cycled anymore after sitting 24 hrs in your dad's car. Is there any way you can get to the car and get the filter out? They can do without a heater, if your house is over 75 deg they won't need one anyway.

"Monster" just means how big your love for fish is. I can love a 2" Betta just as much as any 12" fish.

The bucket is black and they were in the dark. They seem calm and much better then they were in the bag. I'll be doing WC in the bucket and into the 37g they go tomorrow when my dad brings the filter home. Hopefully they make it.

Best of luck! If you can, try and get some established media and put it in the new tank to speed up the cycle. Like Twisted Penguin said, the bacteria will be dead on the filter by the time you get it on the tank.

OK thanks for the advice guys. What I did this morning was:

Completely emptied one of my 10g tanks. I moved all the sand into the 37 gallon tank (since I only had about 20 lbs of new sand left) and took out all the plants and ornaments. I moved the Harlies (Harlequin Rasboras) into my other 10g with the Dwarf Gourami, 2 Guppy Juvies, and Inverts. I had to moved the Betta into a porcelain container since he can't be in either of my other tanks with another Betta or a Gourami.

I put the three Silver Dollars in the now bare 10g tank. It has the filter I was using in the bucket that was originally in that tank anyway.

I've filled the 37g tank with water and sand for substrate and a couple of caves, and a couple of plants, and a castle. (This was all in the 37g before).

Right now I'm just waiting for my dad to get back from work so I can put in the filter and heater in the 37 gallon tank. Although the heater isn't needed at this point. Its 80s in my other tanks with no heaters.

So now the quesiton is:

When do I put in the 3 Silver Dollars into the 37 gallon tank?

I could take the filter media from my established 20g long tank and put it in the 37g tank filter. (I have replacement cartridges for it). It should have some nice amount of bacteria to seed the tank. The box says that the plastic blue stuff in there is where the bacteria is suppose to be, but I'm sure a good amount is on the filter media itself. right?
