Alright guys, here's what's up.
I live in Southeast Texas, I have a 220 with a large SA/CA stock, and I'm planning on building a pond with our old pool-liner that we're getting rid of, the old sand-filter for the pool, an old pump that I found (Don't know if it works or what the GPH is yet), and a DIY filter along with the sand filter if it is needed.
I also plan on building a cheap PVC greenhouse to cover it with, to keep it warm during our short winter season.
The stock that must immediately go in it is my Tiger Oscar, 2 Red Bellied Pacu, and a Blue Gill Sunfish.
Eventually my Silver Arowana, TSN, Largemouth Bass, Common Pleco, and possibly a RTC will go in there too, along with whatever else I may come across.
The liner is a 28'x28' circle, with 4' tall walls.
I don't plan on making it a 20'+ pond though, so realistically what size should I make this pond to care for this stock?
It needs to be small enough to fit into a greenhouse, but I can probably build it to a pretty large size.
Also, will a bigger pond help it stay warmer during our winter months?
(Winter for us is normally only really bad for 2-4 months, and we hit lows of 20-30f, but only for a couple weeks)
I'm also doing a few other things for natural heating, I'm trying to avoid electrical heating if possible.
And if extra filtration is needed (I love over filtering), can you forward me to some good pond filter designs please.
I have a few other questions also that I'll throw around as this goes on, but really I'm just trying to get better ideas from the experts before I start designing.
Any other advice will be very appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not sure your gonna get away with not heating it, I know our winters aren't that bad but do you really want to risk it

I'de check out the DYI sections if you haven't already.. and start looking at the materials you intend on useing for your project.. as most come pre-sized. so it may be easiest/cost effective to work with sizes that you won't have wasted material on to get the biggest pond/bang for your buck.

I'm hoping that a greenhouse, deep underground piping, a DIY solar heater, and maybe a 50g water heater or an air heater inside the greenhouse will do the trick. I'm aiming to keep the water to at least 65f, if not warmer. From what I know, pond heaters are pretty expinsive, and the cost to run them is outragous.
