I was browsing around petsolution and ebay for a UV Sterilizer, but I am not 100% sure if the ones from Ebay are any good. The prices are right, but I don't want to risk anything happening in my tank.I currently have a 125 gallon set up, but I know I will be getting a bigger tank from 210 to 240 range. What wattage should I look out for, so I wont have to repurchase another UV Sterilizer?
thanks

UV effectiveness depends on flow rate. What pump are you running now and what do you think you'll be running on the big tank?

I am running a powerhead and a air pump that was given to me for free, so I am not too sure what it puts out.I know when I am ready to get a larger tank, I will buy a different air pump at least.

So you plan to hook the powerhead to the UV? If so, what's the flow rate? Air pump has nothing to do with the UV.

I think it is safe to say that anything between 12W and 25W.

a pond uv is not the same as a tank uv

a pond uv is a uvc a tank uv is a uvs

a pond uv is a waste of time on a tank

its all about contact time a pond uv normally use a bulb a tank uv a tube

if the flow rate is to slow its no big deal as it will just warm the water more meaning your heaters wont work as much and you will have more contact time which is better

if the flow rate is to fast then it wont have any affect

go for a 25w as you can pump a max of 1700;ph throw that so if you upgrade the tank you wont need to upgrade the uv

tank uv normally come in 8w 15w 25w and 30w which are the standard tube sizes you can get larger units but they are massive over 3ft long

dont get a pond uv as they are mainly for clearing green water which you dont normally get in a home tank

a tank uv kills parasites and helps with green
