I have diagnosed my fish with velvet I'll post a some pictures so you can see and make sure that I'm correct. Sunday I went to petsmart and bought the API brand super ick cure because, I researched before I bought it and was informed it cures velvet as well as other parasites and I wanted to hit this from a broad spectrum. That afternoon I followed the instructions and reduced the dosage by 1/2 because of my scaleless pleco. Waited 48 did a water change and dosed again lastnight. I'm not seeing any progress so I'm kind of discouraged, I don't want to keep stressing my fish and adding more of the medicine in the tank but I'm guessing I should keep up the treatment until it improves? Temp is at 82 just like the bottle says. Can anyone give me any input and encouragement? Please and thanks.

You might want to start here.

I've never used the product you mentioned, nor have I had a fish with velvet. However...

1) From my quick review of their website, API does not recommend Super Ick Cure on their website for velvet. They recommend API General Cure. (I realize that Amazon says that Super Ick Cure works on velvet, but I'm skeptical since the API website contradicts it.)

2) The attached link provides products people suggest for velvet.

3) If you use any more medication, run new carbon in your filter first to remove the other medication. Just like with us humans, mixing 2 medications which might be perfectly safe alone. may prove to be toxic together.

Having said all that, I suggest you post pics and discuss the matter on MFK before medicating since others may advise a different course of action.

Methylene blue dip twice a day till it clears should do it.

Pretty safe too.

But ur fish don't look like velvet. Atleast from what I can tell on ur pics and remember what believer looks like. Maybe someone else can chime to properly ID or get some better pics.

It doesn't look exactly like velvet to me either but if you can see his find are turning yellow so that's why I thought it was and it was just starting with his fins? Idk I'm so confused. Ever since I've treated him though he hasn't been flashing at all so that's a good sign.

Here's another electric blue this is not my fish but one off the internet it also has yellow fins... could this be completely normal for my fish?

I'm not an expert on cichlids but could be a normal color variant.

Lol, oops. He probably just is gaining more color back after the stress of buying him. Sometimes it takes a while.

The top pic does look like he had a patch of fungus or something on his tail? Or maybe the reflection? Keep up on water changes either way and it should clear up in a little haha.
