Recently setup a new 75gal brack tank for my eels and new monos and have run into a problem.

When eels were in old smaller tank it wasn't a hassle just to go buy 10-12 gal of water to do changes. But now that the number i would have to buy has atleast doubled if not more i'm trying to figure out how i can get around to using regular tap water instead.

Problem is i'm on city tap water (who knows what kind of fun stuff is lurking in it) and don't have a whole lot of/if any extra room to setup anything to hold the water while the dechlorinator is working.

Can i just add the dechlorinator to the gallon jugs i use to fill it back up as i go or does it not work that quickly?

Any and all suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thanks.....Mindy

i have been doing that for 11 years and have never had any problems with it, but chicago city water is pretty good, don'tknow what it's like in MO.

dechlorinator works instantly, so as long as you don't have other contaminants in your city water, it should be fine to just mix and change. Good luck!

Call the water dept., tell them your raising tropical fish and ask if they are using chlorine or chloramine, and if there is anything else you need to know about in the water.

You could get a cartridge filter and hook it to your water system with a good hose (potable water hose) just for the fish, usually good for about 6000g.

I have a 20g barrel (that actually holds 18g :screwy: ) for my water changes. I add dechlor and salt to it, and by the time it is full the chlorine is gone and most of the salt is dissolved. I then use a pump and garden hose to do the dirty work for me. It is all small enough to lug through the house from the garage, but many times it camps out in my bathroom closet. All of my water change gear packs into the barrel.
