Ok...Here is the deal....I was feeding my Brackish tank, and noticed my male Knight Gobie acting strange....I know that he is protecting eggs, but he was different somehow....He came out to grab a few chunks of brine shrimp, and there it was....his lower jaw is broken!!! It looked as if someone went in there with a siccors and "cut" his jaw.....It looks painful, and I have no idea how it happend.....I am needing to know what I can do to help him out.....if there is even anything I can do......

A sad little girl....Jen :(

I have Scats, Monos, and Chromides....They are all about 2 1/2 to 3 inches....all just little "babies".....They are in a 90 gal tank.....OH, there are also 4 red legged reef hermit crabs n there, but they are all way to small to do any damage to my fish....their shells are about and inch long......

Mmm damage to mouth is not good. I once had a crab about this size, maybe a little bigger, and their claws could definitely do that kind of damage...there is great strenght in these little guy's pinchers.

If the fish still feeds, then my guess is he will be ok. He might lose usage of his jaws but might still be able to syphon food. How bad is the cut? One of my pirhanas had his jaw bitten by another during a feeding frenzy, lived but today he is the smallest cause he can't eat as fast as the others...

Fish heal fast, there is always hope :)

It's most likley an injury from either another fish or from the goby moving stuff (gravel for example) If he can still eat, I'd bet it will heal up and be ok. If he can not eat, that could be a problem.

THink cichlids; many lock jaws and mess each other up pretty bad but typically heal up just fine.

Other than making sure it's not getting picked on or fighting and making sure the water is in great shape, I don't think there is much you can do. Feed it a food better than brineshrimp perhaps, brineshrimp is a lousy and messy food.

Give it some time....

They get a HUGE variety of foods...The brineshrimp is like a treat for them....I soak it in ZOECON by KENT and their main food is MARINE-S by HIKARI and also FORMULA 2 AND....they get SPIRULINA flakes.....I will watch my gobie to see if he is eating...He did eat last night, so far thats a good sign.....
Thanks!

Awesome range of foods Jen, should be some healthy fish you got there.

What's the status on your gobie? Is it doing OK?

Well...He is doing really good! He is not hiding anymore, and he is eating like normal! I am soo glad that he is not as affected by the "cut" as I thought he was...Its all the good stuff I give them!
I am thinking of using a vitamin C now...what do you think? Its KENT MARINE - MARINE C....
I am already adding KENT ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS for my little crabs....and overall health of the tank....
Would I be adding to much to the water???

Jen ;)

I like and use kent marine supplements alot. I have not used thier vitamin C though. I use Vita-Chem from Byod enterprises and soak my food in it. I do not add it to the water, I don't think this would be very affective. The average filtration system most likley would remove it from the water anyway. Soaking the food in it gives your fish a good dose of vitimins when they eat. I have seen some impressive health improvements and coloration on fish that I used Vita-chem on.

I would assume that kent's "C" is a good poduct, I just have not used it before.

Arrowana pictures? :D

Thanks for the advice on the food additives...I like healthy fish! Do you soak the dry foods too? Like the pellets?
