I'm very interested in boosting up my filtration in my 200gal and wanna graduate from the standard back and canister filters to a homemade wetdry. I'm sure I can build a nice one but am not 100% sure of the mechanics behind the whole setup of it. If anyone knows of a good site or a thread I can study or would take the time to help fill in the blanks that are in my head I would appreciate it.Thanks...

There is no one great thread. My advice would be to search for "DIY Wet/dry" or "DIY SUMP". You will find tons of threads with many different builds. Take what you like about each build and then design one that you think would be best. We'll be here to help you out with any questions along the way. But we do encourage people to learn and understand.
