can someone guide me in the right direction. have had a 27" silver aro willed to me and are coming down to the wire>on time. big saltwater guy but fresh just a dummy:nilly: already set up a tank for him ,cycled, and partly decorated. just dont know if the cycle was enough. 50 one inch goldfish. Worried because in saltwater it takes a mature tank for such a large addition to be added. How hardy are they. how long of an acclimation period. i have had some saltwater fish take up to 12 hours to aclimate. please help

How long has said tank been setup? How big is it? How long have the goldfish been in it?

tank has been setup for 2 months and goldfish have been in there for about 1 1/2 months tank size is approx 350 gallons

take out the guppies, just more bioload, and a poor source of food. feed them market shrimp/ pellets

no the guppies are just as a jumpstart to the bio load its self the aro will not be here for 3 to 5 days. for a little more info i owned a pet store for 7 years and i raise a little aro up to 10" and when i closed i gave it to a lady that had a 265 and was a great customer. about two weeks ago she passed away. but she willed me an approx 27" silver aro wich is now close to 5 years old. i knew about this about 3 months ago cause she was very sick and had contacted me. but its getting down to the wire and im worried about such a large fish going into such a new tank. any one know of any tank mates for such a large fish.

Thanks g shock I was planning on getting rid of the gold fish. As long as it has cycled I hope everything will be fine. Do you have any idea on tank mates for her. I will be setting up a 92 galon to raise up any tank mates but i was thinking of a clown knife, a lung fish, and a few cichlids. By the way would the salt content for an aro be compatible with a stingray.

Its probably cycled if the gold fish were in there for 1.5months but still do as Gshock said and test the params, mainly ammonia. A properly cycled tank shouldn't register on a ammonia test (atleast not an API test kit).

As far as tank mates, you have a lot of options with a 350gal. Aro's like the top levels of their tanks to themselves but you could probably get another aro with a tank that size. Other than that pretty much all bottom dwellers big enough not to be a meal are viable. Stingrays, catfish, plecos, knifefish etc etc... Other fish that stay mid-level in a tank are fine too, again as long as they are realtively large. Cichlids, datnoids, pacu... Just to name a few.

Good luck.

Yes it would be fine. They come from the same waters in the wild.

peacock bass would be good mabye dats but their expensive not as cool as p-bass imo.

Clownknife and lungfish both work from what I know, not sure about the africans though. As for the rays, if you are planning to go with the clownknife, and lungfish, its not a good idea. Clownfish have been known to pick at ray's eyes while lungfish take chunks out of the ray's disc. Arowana do not require salt at all, neither do rays or any of the other fish you mentioned. Also not a good idea to have 2 aros. Yes it does work occaisionally, but this is like a hit and miss attempt with a very low percentage of sucess.
