bought a 180 for cheap and three sides were painted black well when i scraped the paint off there is a crack all the way up one side...I AM PISSED.... my question is i have a piece of glass that will fit over the crack znd cover alot of area but not the whole side if i silicone this piece of glass over the crack will this work or will the tank still fail???? piece of glass is 3/8 tank is 5/8.. i am thinking tha t it might hold but i want to make sure before i do this since removing that piece if glass will suck if it doesnt work...

I wouldnt risk it because silicone isnt a very good adhesive. Maybe if you used epoxy or something it would hold, but it might be worth it to get an entire new peice.

Maybe you can take the peices that are left and make windows for one of your ponds?

If you siliconed it on the inside, maybe.I was at a breeders place recently and he had a few large tanks fixed like that .But his were in a hathcery not a living room

i was thinkin that about using them for a diy tank... the bad thing is its the back panel that is 6x2 so the piece of glass is expensive not worth it IMO i cuold buy a new tank for less hassle... but i mght take it apart and build a diy with the left over pieces

:iagree: :iagree:

I could use that for sure..

You could remove the cracked & replace it with non-glass, a nice larpiece of black plexi, even epoxy it over the back

I have repaired small crack across a corner where it can be isolated, sealed over with silicone put a repair piece entirely over it. I had a tank in my fish room that had been repaired like this for years but I would rather get a peace the right size and silicone it in side and bottom silicone will hold it no problem and it will stick the too peaces together but you must let it cure for 7 days before filling. But at the end of the day thats a lot of water to mop up:D
