Alright guys, I have a 90 gallon fish tank that is empty right now. My girlfriend loves puffers. I dont know what kind of puffer i want. I was thinking about the Fahaka Puffer but i ddont know that much about it. Any info? Also what other puffers would you suggest. I like the fahakas because they chow down on cray fish. Need suggestions please and thnks!!

A 90 will be too small for the Fahaka. They can get quite big quite quick. I was in the same position as you last month. A Fahaka will need 120+ gallons when hes an adult. You have a couple options, but id suggest checking out the pufferpedia over on ************** if your dead set on a puffer.

I ended up getting a Monotrete Abei puffer. Only gets about 5 inches max which works perfect in my 55g which is a huge home for him.

Other options are the Brown puffer, Hairy puffer, Palembang puffer, small colony of Salivators, or maybe a small colony of SAPs? Others will have better info on the smaller guys, I dont know much about keeping multiple small puffers together. I do know you can only get away with one mail and there has to be alot of plants and hiding spots though.

Ride is correct, a Fahaka is a no go in that size tank. Assuming you want to stick FW Ride gave you great suggestions.

You could house 6 or so SAP's(but they dont act like normal puffers) or a dozen or so Dwarf Puffers. With both you will want heavy planting.

If you are willing to go light brackish you would probably have a lot of fun with 5-6 F8s

man whered the op go? i would say for freshwater a big group of dwarfs. then throw in like a pair of gouramis or paradise fish to give it some diveristy. one of the coolest tanks i have ever seen was a 55 with a bunch of dwarf puffers, a few small loach species then a giant school of rasboras and a pair of dwarf gouramis. the puffers where like a little wolfpack(no other way to describe it) and would just float around looking for food. then the rasboras enlivened the middle section the gouramis added color and the loaches where down at the bottom to clean up the excess food.

if you like fish that will eat anything you put in the tank and are puffers try any of the redeye puffers. they are mean little $&%@ and will eat any live thing you put in the tank. if you do your tank heavily planted you could do like 6 redeyes. the lfs has some near me and they feed there ghost shrimp and pond snails they breed.
