So my Kelberi stopped eating about 3 weeks ago. He would act interested but spits it out like he can't swallow. I treated the tank with prazipro about two weeks ago in case they had something. He still isn't eating and worse I woke up to my Temensis dead in the tank. He was 17" and had been eating. Water is 0 Ammonia and Nitrite, Nitrate 20, pH 7.4. I do weekly water changes. Thanks

What are you feeding and what kind of filter?

I have been feeding tilapia for about a year. He showed interest in pellets but spits them out. I have 3 Fx6 and 1 Eheim Pro 3 2080 for filtration. I run purigen in one of the Fx6.

Is this this the tank (220 gallon) that back in November you had 4ppm of ammonia? The tem with blood in the eye? It’s clearly because of tank husbandry and or tank not fully cycled, if you keep having issues with your fish it’s not your fish it’s there home that’s the issue improve on this and your fish will survive. Sorry if I’m coming off a little rude not trying to be. Make sure your tank is fully cycled your fish could have died because of the previous issue with ammonia.

I didn't take that as harsh, no worries. The tank is fully cycled, it crashed when my pH dropped. I did fix that. Maybe you are right on the Ammonia being the culprit. I have six Red hooks in the tank and they are thriving. The water quality has been really good other than the time it crashed. I do use R/O DI water and keep it consistent every time. Well thanks for the input.

Do you keep an eye on your kh ? That can cause ph swings and crashes
Yes I do I add a buffer to bring the kh up in the RO DI water. It is around 5. That's the best I can get without raising the pH too high. I am wondering if I should bag the RO DI water and go back to tap. The problem was our tap water had high phosphate and silicates which promoted bad algae growth despite phosphate removers in the filters.

I’m sure you have seen my tank I have a ton of algae growth, I have the same issue with my tap water. Personally I like the way my tank looks with algae and my bass’s colors really pop with all the algae in the background. richyrich richyrich hit it right on the head maybe that’s what caused your system to crash before.

Thumbs up for algae.:):);)

I was thinking of removing the R/O portion and only running the Silicate/DI portion. Do you think that would cut down silicates and phosphate but still leave the Kh and pH and elements alone?
