these 7 guys have grown to a range of 3"-5" now and have become the hungriest and cheekiest damn fish known to man! still not exactly sure what they are as they've got a bit of colour and there's slight variants between them so i'm starting to think they are a hybrid of a couple of amphilophus species.

these are the previous posts about them:

they don't fight amongst themselves or chase round the smaller cichlids such as my convict, rainbows, keyhole, uaru or salvini but show no fear of trying to steal a shrimp out of my channa auranti or mbu's mouth!! also i put them in my big tank at 2" with the channa and my polys including a congicus and 2 endli's and all of them have survived which must mean they're pretty mean to hold their own against them!

anyone got any idea what they are?

Man my heart broke when i went on a DNR website and they had a WANTED poster for 'em telling people to kill 'em cause they survive out of water:(:( and i know im off topic, sorry.

no there isn't anyway for you to legally obtain snakeheads in the US and discussion in open forum about trying to obtain them is against forum rules. ;)

marvinbaker, you definitely have some kind of juvie Amphilophus, but most juvie Amphilophus (midas types anyway) look the same when they're young so you won't really have much of a chance to find out what they really are until they're around 6" or so. :)

I figured by their eating they're a type of either midas or rd or possibly a hybrid of the 2. either way as much as i like the little soon to be big guys 7 is certainly too many so if anyone wants to pick a couple up they're welcome. at what size would you imagine them to start quarreling as they shoal nicely at the moment although maybe that's to dissuade the channa and my polys from attacking them.
