Hey everyone. Can someone ID this cichlid, I am not sure if its african or s. american so I don't know where to post. I am leaning towards african though. I just need to know what he is. Thanks in advance.

It is kind of hard to tell, It looks somewhat green so it could be a sp. murago. It is definately a moorii of some type. If it were a duboisi it would be black with white spots. It would be best to wait for a bit and let it get more color that way we can tell the exact type of moorii it is.

edit: It may be a ujiji as well.....

Looks like Tropheus Polli maybe?

Looks like there is to much yellow IMO, I dont see any of the lyre either.

Its a bit hard to see from the pics I agree but we have had polli with a good bit of yellow and barring like that pic.... But then again it could be a Moorii like you said ;)

It is so stinkin hard to tell at this size anyway! :D Unless you are going from the sp. black, sp. red...etc...

edit: I was wondering what kind of fish that is in your avatar? Is it a gar of some kind? It is kind of hard to tell by the pic.

Really a tropheus? I got him for 28 cents. He was in a tank by himself and the dude at petsmart told me he was with the feeder fishes when he arrived. They had to separate him. He got my attention because he was by himself in a tank of plecos but he was really active moving a lot like a tropheus. I just did not expect him to really be a tropheus, but I knew he was a cichlid of some kind. For 28 cents, I knew I had to get him. I will try to post better pictures tomorrow.

Follow up question. Is there a coldwater cichlid? or a cichlid that looks like a tropheus when he is a juvenile? I think it would have been a long shot that a tropheus juvie would accidentally be put in a feeder tank.
