Ok, to prelude the picture, this is not my tank, it belongs to a guy I work with who got the two cichlids in the middle as a "gift" from an uncle who knew he liked fish. Obviously the blue one is mbuna of some kind and he's not too concerned with it, but he wants to know what the other one is because it has killed his 2 oscars and a juvenile "giant gourami" (don't know for sure if that is the kind of gouramis he has, all I have to go on is this picture). So we looked around and tried to make guesses ourselves, but we're still not sure, my wife thinks it looks like an ugly convict, I think it looks like a bad picture of a juvenile p. dovii. Any better information or better guesses would be appreciated in advance while the group of us tries to figure out what to do with this fish.

(hope that worked, I'm bad at posting pics, in case it didn't here's a link to copy for any that are willing to make that effort... http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/swinginuttersgrrl/jose.jpg )
Thanks a lot!

I thought that convicts only acted nuts, bullying and killing everything, when they were paired and mating. Are they more pugnacious than I thought? He claims that the thing is tearing all his other fish up, although I forgot to ask about tank size, could that be the issue? I still would have thought that the other fish would have been more prone to bullying the newcomer instead of the other way around.

Con for sure. Mine have fry and killed one of my oscars but the other one is holding his own.
