I could use some help here with an id please. This fish was sold at lfs as an assorted african cichlid.


It is on the right.

Wow! Hybrid, not sure of what, but it really looks like a hybrid.

Maybe a species of peacock mixed with...?

His body shape, underlying coloration, and dorsal fin are making it really tough to figure out.

I am sure it just got caught up in their shipment to the store. Its a hybrid or like MD said, deformed. Moori and something maybe...?

Anything in "assorted african" tanks has a good possibility of being a hybrid.

Malawi can interbreed. As far as I know, it's only within their own genus, BUT anything is possible, especially with cichlids. Africans are no exception to that particular rule.

Seems to be T. moorii 'ish to me. Could be a hybrid.
