I just bought this few days ago, doing alright, established himself quite well, but very shy, always hiding. About 8cm.

So is he a bleheri or Assam?or some sort of gachua? got him for Rm22,around
5-6 dollars.

Please verify?(my guess is Assam?)

HI ,

its a male sp. Assam /lal cheng . And he is very very frightened.
Give him more hiding places
Cheers Brucki

as brucki said it is assam , brucki is the main man for these ,he has bred them many times , as he said it does look stressed ,assam live in flooded grassy areas and really like the tank full of plants and hiding places ,esp cover at the surface ,this can be acheived easy with floating plants , he will have 100% better colours when he feels secure

cheers col

OK,thanks for the confirmation. Goin to get the floating plants soon, its all in the planning stage, but i received the first unexpectedly before the tank is ready. I read palle's sticky thread about the living condition. Will put more plants in it. Currently he is in a 30G tank, alone,he should be find alone right?i dont have plans to put more than one. I gave him shrimp for every 2 days. What are the best or ideal diet?mealworms?nightcrawlers?frozen bloodworms?
Thanks people

HI,

not every time the same food.
Give him a various diet, lots of insects, but not too much food.
Dont keep him too warm.
Can be kept as a single, but is more fun as a pair

Cheers Brucki

Yeah, im keeping him within the suitable temp,i saw him swimming around looking for food and discovering the new place from a distance. Once i approach the aquarium,he swam back into his hiding place. What sort of insects suitable for his diet?i can only obtain crickets and mealworms. But my concern is,the cricket will float around and might crawl on the floating plants and my fish might have difficulties to catch them. I think i might just kill the cricket?ahhaha

Thanks brucki!
