I am curious if anyone can ID this catfish. I got it from someone who told me they got it as a baby and as it grew it started eating their fancy goldfish. I have kept it alone since I rescued it a few months ago. It is approx 6-7 inches and "I think" its some form of bullhead. The back half looks deformed and when I asked her about it I was told they all looked like that. Seems to eat bloodworms and picks at flake food. Shows no interest in krill.

Kinda looks like a blue channel cat to me, but like its tail got sucked into a filter intake... I'm not sure what it is. What bit him on his sides? or is that from moving him?

Just moved him to a larger tank but he was pretty beat up when I got em. The tail has looked like that since I first got it. It doesnt seem to effect him but does look odd with a slight twist to it as well.

Looks like a channel cat. It was either beat up or got the deformity when it was really young. It's not uncommon to see fish with deformed backs like that.

Any idea what size I'm looking at? I dont think it has even grown a full inch since it came into my hands.

I can't be precise, don't know much about them, but they grow BIG

Well, when I had one, he grew between an inch and 1.5 inches per month, but that was before I new much about fish keeping, I would say on a good diet, a healthy specimen could exceed those numbers.

I've seen channel cats that are longer than 3 feet at one of the local Aquariums.

They get large, growth rates really very between them, I have one growing faster than the others, and I think a lot of it has to do with tank temp, the ones I have in a native cold water tank havn't grown much, but the one in with my tropicals is showing good growth.

The tail looks like a calcium deficiency which will cause the spines to bend/curve like that. Mine eat sinking cichlid pellets, blood worms, earthworms, and cut up shrimp and fish. mine are kinda picky, and I have to stand a few feet away from the tank and throw the food in if I want to see them eat, but the lights can be on... odd fish, but wonderful, I love mine.
