it is refered to that quite commonly cant remember its latin name at the moment. is it feeding?

Looks like a Freshwater Lionfish or Freshwater Toadfish. They're more brackish water than fresh water. They're predatory and venomous.

Think i've found it, Batrachomoeus trispinosus. I've layed in some shrimps, will check in the morning if it has eaten.

Is it fresh or salt?

If its salt, it appears to be (maybe this is just slang term for the word you found) an oyster toad. can get up to 2 ft. Dont put your fingers in its mouth if thats what it is!

also known as oyster toadfish, oyster cracker, toadfish, goby(might be another species,) few other names...

Its a dirty dirty mutt of the ocean, which is pretty neat for an aqarium. I get them in crab traps, 20"+, pretty scary. Got some nasty teeth, strong bite, and huge jaw. hence the names...
