I am new to the board and would like some design ideas/plans for my 240(8'x2'x2') and 125(6'x2'x2'). Because of space constraints I would like to build a stand that accomodates both tanks stacked. Ideally I would like the 125 below near the ground level and the 240 around 4' above the ground.

All of your input is much appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions about using pallet racks, but has somebody built a stackable stand using wood? The might be little cheaper but the pallet rack is definetly the quickest.

After researching throughout the Bay Area for pallet racks, it appears the dimensions I need 24" wide and 6' tall is not readily available. Does any body have experience building a stackable stand using wood? If so, could you share your design/ideas for building a stacked stand that's 8' long by 24" deep and 6' high?

Lodi Metal Tech (http://www.lodimetaltech.com/) makes great pallet racks. They have several dealers in the area, one is http://www.avantistorage.com/ at

I have a pallet rack I purchased from them years ago to hold 2 290 gallon tanks (72 x 30 x 31). I got a heavy duty unit rated at 8,000 pounds per shelf and 40,000 pounds per pair of uprights.

I forgot to menytion they can make racks as thin as 18 inches and up to anything bigger than I would ever need. If I remember correctly, they can do any size in 2 inch increments. I strongly suggest going 2 inches over what you think you need. I had to take the plastic frames off of my tanks to fit them in.

Have a steel stand made. It will fit YOUR dimensions that way and cost about the same as a pallet rack. You can even have it designed so you can disassemble it!
