Im looking to stick my 75g with cichlids. I don't know much about cichlids so I need some ideas on what to stock my tank with and some info on them. I prefer more small fish over 1-2 large fish.

I would just do an african cichlid tank. You could put rocks in it with a bunch of small hiding places. There are a lot of different looking cichlids if I were you I would go on a site like aquabid and pick them out that way. They are very active and need plenty of places to hide become some are territorial. If you don't want to spend a lot of money you could get them from petco but it is hard to tell with them what you are getting as they don't get their true colors until they're older.

yeah if you like a heavily stocked tank with smaller fish then you should go with african cichlids, they dont have as much personality/interaction with you but they are neat looking fish and are probably more what you are looking for. there are also small CA/SA cichlids that you could stock with but still wont be able to do as many as with africans, there are convicts, firemouths, salvini, honduran red points, sajica, neets (these guys are little beasts and really cool looking with major attitude) among many others, you could do about 4 of these with some higher bodied tetra for added activity...

if you want to go with American cichlids and you prefer the smaller over larger then I would go with:

10 juvenile firemouths
15-20 platys or swordtails (less if you go with swords)
1 or 2 bristlenose plecs

In the end, you won't be able to keep all 10 firemouths but they do much better as juveniles in larger groups. As they mature you should be able to keep 2 or maybe even 3 pairs together depending on how well they get along. The platys/swords will provide some additional motion in the tank and the fry they produce will provide the occasional treat for the firemouths. :)

You could also do a group of 6 or so orange head geos and maybe a severum or something. You could also throw in a school or larger tetras

You could go with less aggressive, rams, kribs, shell dwellers or a more aggressive like cons, a single oscar, firemouth (not too aggressive), salvani, green terror, jack dempsky. It's all what you like. Do a google search on images and look at pictures and see which ones stand out to you.
