I am thoroughly enjoying my mini guapotes! They are on their second spawn and are absolutely fascinating fish to observe. BUT.... I have them in a 3 ', 40 gallon tank as they are a young pair. I acquired a 55 gallon that I will move them into after I grow out their present spawn under their care for another month or so. I absolutely hate the way I have their present tank set up. Too much, too fine sand, and some driftwood with java fern attached. The excavation that they have done makes it impossible to maintain and the filtration flow has way too many dead spots. I'd like to simplify things. Bare bottom? Gravel? Sand? Flower pots? I just don't know which direction to go so can some of you show me some pics of setups that work for salvinis or other cichlids that might translate to salvinis?

Appreciate it!

I have bred a few central american cichlids,i always like to give them a variety of spots.most of my tanks have PFS,large and small rocks, and plenty of wood, sometimes fake plant or 2.I currently have a SA community with the usual.20140529_191823-1.jpg 20160327_093833.jpg

Thanks for the reply! I had almost given up on anyone sharing advice on this. Your tank looks kinda like what I was going for but I made a couple of mistakes. I used crappy fine sand that had been lying around in the yard for a year. I used too much of it and I should have sterilized it.

The pool filter sand has a slightly larger grain size, then I threw some bigger gravel on,just a small bags worth.I like about an inch deep.aquascaping is fun for some,I like creating and collecting the wood and rocks from rivers and lakes.let me know if u have more questions

Salvini is a relatively easy fish to breed. Provide them with good quality pellets and let the nature takes it's course.

This I know. I have juvies and fry up the wazoo! Just looking for a setup that's decent to look at and easy to maintain.
