Hey guys, I picked up this catfish at Petco about a week ago. It was donated and was told that it was aggressive towards the previous owner's Oscars, and was biting them. In my mind I was thinking "yeah right" so I paid the $5 for it and left. Immediately after I put him in my tank he started displaying dominance over my female red devil. The fought it out for a bit and now get along quite well. I'm not sure what type of catfish he is though. I've searched with no availe and the closest I can pin is a pictus cat. Any help please?!

S. eupterus doesn't have the bifurcation of color that I see in the dorsal of this specimen.
Since you've brought attention to the dorsal fin wgen they get to a certain size there are trailers on the eupterus dorsal if I remember correctly. This fish does not appear to have those so it just might be some type of multipunctatus hybrid.

IMHO it is the most commonly sold hybrid syno called valentiana, jaguar, leopard, and other silly made up marketing names. I'm positive it is this guy: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=602 Note there is notable base color and spot size variation but I've had more than a dozen of these and succeeded to raise a few to adulthood. They were all of this kind.

The colors and spots evolve heavily with age and size. IME, this guy will grow up to look like this http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=4123 - mine did anyways...
