On the Rio Araguaia, I wish...
Okay, finally about to start construction on the pond. Looking for a little advise. I am planning a 12' x 5' x 3' pond with a water height of 32". I want to do two 4'x2ft windows across the front. The total gallonage should be about 1200. Will half inch glass be thick enough to get the job done? Does anyone know a good place online to pick up 1/2" glass that can be drilled? Any other suggestions on window building and ideas please post because at this point I'm pretty unsure. Thanks ~Trent

I don't think 1/2" glass will be thick enough, what type of glass would it be?

Not really sure, thats why I need advise :) It said 1/2" was pretty strong for that size sheet, on the site I found the information on, it showed safety factors with the 3/8" being like a 2 and the 1/2" being a 4 on safety factor but it didn't really relate the safety factors to anything so it was fairly useless information when I read it. Since the windows are smaller I'm not as worried about price so I could get really thick glass if needed whereas I would be if I had one massive like 10'x2' window but I know that glass would have to be super thick to withstand that amount of water weight pushing outwards. Also I'm looking for good glass retailers, surely someone out there has some suggestions???

Although I find it highly unprobable...If I could afford a 10'x2' window that was thick enough and everyone thought it would work just fine... I would much rather have that size window instead. Thanks for your opinions ~Trent

Hmmm, i am certainly no expert but i'll shout you my tips until an expert in this field reacts to the topic.

Personally i think lots of smaller windows would actually look better than one big window. The greater number of smaller ones will make the pond look bigger to the eye, save on your cash and be safer and certainly easier.

As for thickness, i recon an inch should be fine. However i am not good with all them math's equations etc. The thicker the better, especially if money is no issue.

Go with two 2x4 windows instead of one small or big window.
