so i want to get a 15 gallon salt water aquarium in my room and i know that it will be like 200+ pounds, but i need some help deciding what fish to put in it. I was thinking like 2 or 3 clownfish and maybe an orange stripe goby, but technically there should be 5 gallons per inch of fish, so i'm wondering if i had like double or triple filtration if it would be ok. also i have $240 and i know that i can get all of the stuff for the tank, but if someone could give me some suggestions on the fish i would be thankful. P.S. this is my first marine aquarium, but right now i have a dwarf puffer in one tank and 6 tropical fish in another so this is not my first tank.

sorry that i did not put this in before, but i also want to get a few red fire fish in this tank, if i can not get any other fish i would much rather get these, also could i maybe get 1 or 2 of these, 1 clownfish (who does not need an anemone or any coral), and the orange stripe goby? also i am sorry but i did not mean 15 gallons i meant 20 gallons, but if i could get all of these fish in a 25 i would do that. thanks!

Salt is much different than freshwater you should do a ton if research. I've never heard of that 5g per inch rule, another bogus myth. The main thing is do research on the fish you want which clearly you havent. Your tank is too small for three clowns. Only do one or two and do ocell. Firefish don't do good in groups unless a mated pair so get one. And I don't know anything on the goby but all those fish will fit in a 20 but bigger is better especially for salt. Salt tanks take much longer to cycle and you can't add all fish at oonce. Do get coral or anemone you should wait atleast a year. Make sure you have a good circular flow and premix salt. GO RESEARCH AND RESEARCH

i have actually been researching for about 4 months and i have a friend who works at the shedd aquarium (Chicago's major aquarium) and keeps tabs on all of the animals, so i do know a lot about these fish, also i just reaserched a 50 gal and people are saying that this would be better that a 25 gal so i will maybe do that. thanks for the info. P.S. i could get a mandran fish now so if you know anything about them i would be happy to hear it.:)

Good research is key for success! Yes a 50g is supposed to be the best starting tank because the bigger the tank less fluctuations in salinity nitrates ammonia, etc. Also with a 50g you could get any clown :p. Yes I do know of a madarin. And I say stay away from it. Its not for beginners or new tanks. They eat pods wwhich grow with a fully cycled tank and they need a massive supply which you can't get by with just having a tank running you'll need tto culture some. They are difficult to get on prepared food and often die of starvation in aquariums. So for a new tank its a no no. I nice fish I would recommended maybe a school of blue/green chromis? Or since you already have a puffer maybe try a dwarf puffer like a valentini. (Recommendations for tthe 50g) another fish for the 50g maybe a dwarf angel, Pygmy, flame, or coral beauty

thanks, i looked into getting a flame angle and they are really cool! i also looked into peppermint angles, but seeing as i do not have $30,000 laying around, i can not get this rare beauty LOL.:) also how much do you think this tank would cost with all of the filtration, wave makers, lighting, test kits, and salt mix? you don't need to include the live rock, live sand, or tank. one more thing, do you have a flame angle, if so i would love to hear about it and how you care for it, if not i would still appreciate any info you have to offer. thanks again!
