hey guyz i just finish filling up my tank i think its a 60 gallon tank...so i need to get somethings done before i get some dats...umm what should i test the water on..i know the ph level is a must...i dont know what is a good amount...i set my heater to 78...do i need the test the water for Nitrate, Nitrite, Hardness, and Alkalinity? sorry for being all technical...my dad killed the fish cuz i didnt care about kois...so i wanna some dats and i dont want it to die =) so any information will be greatly appreciated...thanx

PH 6.5-7.5, Nitrate under 20ppm, Nitrite and ammonia 0, I don't test harness of my water, but u can if you want. I would go for a temp of close to 85 for a couple of weeks with some salt in the tank to prevent ich. then drop it down to like 80

What size dats can u obtain? What species J/W? EVENTUALLY ALL SPECIES WILL NEED A BIGGER TANK!

Small Dats(2 inch), if u get baby Indo's, i'd say you can have about 10-15 in the 60 G tank for awhile. Once they get bigger sell them off slowly..

Madium sized Dats(4 inch), start growing slower , only a little slower... I would say about 4 Dat tops... and they would need a bigger tank eventually..ofcourse

Big dats (6+ inch) I would have 2, but with driftwood or other hiding spots, tops

XL Dats (8+ inch) One, or none at all, bigger tank needed, but Dats grow SLOW once they reach a size like this.

Indos shouldnt be too hard to find....like aquataholic said, any dat will need a larger tank eventually but assuming you get babies, they can last in the 60 for a long time because they are slow growing...some individuals will grow faster though but most dont...GL with your dats...awsome fish to start a new tank with :)

Ive got 11 in a 55G
the tank is barebottom, and has many decorations, all sizes... in the tank is also a small archer fish, and 2 small Ctenopoma. What you think of them?

And u cant keep 10 Dats in the 60g tank forever!
