i am about to get a job at a pet store in lancaster ohio but the thing is that i know little about saltwater tanks and fish what is just some of the basics i need to know about cleaning and mantaining the salt water tanks so that i dont mess up and get a fish killed and then get killed

I think you will get training on that, every store does it differently. I would focus more on how tanks work and what you need for the different types (reef, fowlr). I bet you will be answering customer questions before they have you touching their equipment...besides scraping algae.

yeah but the owner of the store was like being a real beotch and told me that i needed to learn this stuff before i can come in to start work that is why i was just asking and i have very little experince in sw and that is y i need your advice on how to take care of them and it is local owned and operated so there is not a chain of them and they dont do the training cause i told her that i knew alot about fresh water and she said ok and then she asked me about saltwater and i told her that i do not have alot of experince in that and then she told me to learn and then come back in and tell her some of the stuff about sw and then i told her ok cause they only have like one person that is working in the store and i think that that is there daughter so they dont train dont know why but they told me to learn and then come back in

Well no one can tell you how to maintain their tanks without knowing the setup. Its similar to FW in that you are gonna have to to basic maintenance like algae removal, water changes, media change, etc.

The sticky's at the top of gen salt have pretty much everything you need to know...

Just don't start giving advice about what fish goes with what, until you know for sure. Same with tank sizes for fish. Do as much research as you can!

Are you only dealing with saltwater??Because i think they would start you on freshwater......Then again its only one person working back there..
