im planning a DIY plywood tank build the dimensions i would like to have is 72 long X 48 tall X 48 wide (or 36 wide).
I need to know acrylic or glass?
why?
how thick?
are these dimensions ok, or is it to tall??
thx in advance!!

also where can i shop for glass? i found a few acrylic glass sites but no glass sites

is this in the wrong section? or just a stupid question?

You are in good place for the question. I think the issue is more that not many of us that have been here lately have built tanks that high. Based on the height I would say acrylic at least an inch thick and glass would need to be about 3/4" and would have some weight to it. Glass IMO is easier to get a seal with.

finally a reply!!! lol i was about to think MFK just didnt like ppl from La lol!!
i think im leaning towards glass my self. im gonna try to get some prices at some local shops around my house!!

I would never recommend building a 48" high tank with 3/4" glass. You would need 1" thick glass as a minimum with a 1.5 safety factor. I probably still wouldn't trust that. To be safe, go with 1 1/4" thick glass.

I would say minimum of 1 1/2" thick acrylic if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the correction Pharaoh! I took a stab at it and I guess I overestimated the strength of glass!

thx for giving it a shot!!!

Regular old plate glass should work just fine. Just make sure it is good quality.
