OK, went looking for RTM at a LFS that I wa stold might have some in stock, but saddly no luck

But while I was there they had what the list as "RED TEXAS Cichlid Non-Fadded" it looked like a nice texas real faint red color to the body about a 3" fish for $40. Talk to the owner and he said it should get the red color as it gets bigger but that might not be until 8 inches.

This is a good shop (not great) I am sure they bought fish sold as red texas and it came from a FL fish farm.

For the record a RED Texas is on my dream list (if it is in fact a red texas) is it worth the risk for $40 for a 3 in fish?

any input welcome

Thanks in advance

Joe

To me no. I wouldn't trust my lfs with a fish like a red texas or flowerhorn. It really comes down to what you want though. It may be a good compromise on $ spent vs the quality that's acceptable to you.

Hey if it comes down to it quality does not matter for me because i plan on breeding them once i can confirm the fader gene. I am trying my luck with 4 rt that i got from one petsmart which is showing a nice red undertone with awesome pearling and and 3 from another lfs which was sold at 9$ bred from private breeders unsure of which generation. But hopefully when they are fading i will breed them back to a fertile srt so the red color intensifies.

That's too much for a red texas with unknown parents. Save yourself some money and time and try and find one online or even a local breeder.
