Need inspiration!

I need something to add some colour to my tank, 300 gallons, at least 450 when the guys/girls tells me so.

crew is:

1 Aro
1 CK
1 Dat
2 BGK
3 African knifes
1 Ornate bichir
1 sen

I need something to add some colour (preferably mid level)
Requirements:

Goes with inhabitants (fairly well)

Goes with plants

Big enough to hold its own against the rest of the crew

Not a chiclid (doesn't matter if it's a super fancy FH the size of ten doviis on steroids)

you are the guys to solve this, c'mon!!

I think BBG sit on the bottom alot or at least lower tank level and it would outgrow that tank and probably the room it's in...

As much as you don't want cichlids I would go pbass.

hmm.. I would love a bbg, barra (preferably neos) , but I am against having something that I cannot house for life.. and p-bass.... ....still a cichlid with the temper that comes with it.. paroons tend to be very skittish, not to mention the size. how about the lung? wouldn't the lung outgrow the tank and take bites out of tankmates?

I would love more dats, only problem is the size, only dats imported here is 1-2" for 50$ and in vere special cases +/- 4" for like 150$ and that's indos.
