thats what i would do, run them both. you have to at first until the beneficial bacteria builds up in the new filter. as for replacing the sump do you want to use the sumps plumbing to install the fx5 or just switch them?
i wannt the fx5 to run the over flow..i'm going to have 2 fx5's all together..one hooked up normal getting debri off the bottom and the other one hooked up off the overflow to get debri from the top..
heres why..
1. the motor i have running the sump is super loud
2. sump stinks
3. i just dont like the sump..
Replace the bio balls with a more efficient bio material.
Pre filter the bio media with polyfiber batting or similar filter material around 50-100micron.
Replace with a new sump pump. (fairly cheap).
Run 1 fx5, and sump. For your size tank you will have a very good filtration.
Your wet dry sump is much better for oxygenation of the tank than the FX5. No need to create surface agitation with wet dry sump.
leave the sump and 1 fx5. and instead of bio balls in the sump, buy a bunch of those cheap dish sponges. not sure you know what im talkin bout. if you want, ill come by saturday and help you out with it to
yea dude lets meet up saturday..i'll def have beer..when dont i have beer lol..i'm going to need help moving the pbass into the 180 gallon..and also with the sump..i got to hurry and heat up the 180..the fx5 is runnin on it now..adding another 50pds of sand tomorrow..my mono and kels are back at beating up the orino..
