At the moment we have a 6" Nile puffer, which looks amazing. Im pretty certain that they are soletary, can anybody give me an idea of the size tank that id need for one and any hints on care etc...

they get large just not as large as a mbu. They should reach 18 inches. A 120 would work for an adult a 180 would be much better. They are solitary fish.
Yes, 120 or larger is best, with a lot of filtration. He may or not accept tank mates but don't count on it.
The Fahaka puffer, or Globe fish, is a good pet for an advanced aquarium hobbyist. While very aggressive towards any other fish, for the most part they are very lazy. Many hobbyists have had limited success keeping them with other tank mates. Fahaka puffers are slow hunters and decent at ambushing. They enjoy burying themselves in a sandy tank bottom when frightened.
