I've been pouring over these forums the last few days looking for ideas on another tankmate(s) for my current stocklist:

3 x Mono's @ 8"
1 x Crenicichla Venz. @ 8"
1 x Oxydoras Niger @ 14"

They just moved into their new 300 and although they all get alot bigger, I think I have room for 1 or 2 more big boys. If I lived in the US I would probably add 2 more cichla of a different variety but finding bass, even Mono's, over 6" in my market would be impossible.

With that in mind I'm looking for a few tanmates. They would have to be over 6" and I want them to fit in with the Amazon/SA theme I have going on. I would also like them to be fairly unique - no Oscars or JD's please. Not interersted in Aro's either

Would a Ray work with the pike and the cat? Any other Amazon type oddballs you can recommend?

Look in the classifieds...there have been quite a few very nice rare cichla for sale if your willing to pay for them. Check it out...there have been some azul's(bangin cichla!), for sale lately.

Throw in an asian aro since your in canada...should work well.

Getting 1 or 2 fsh shipped to Canada is cost prohibitive. If it wasn't I would have bought all my stock from Tangled Up.

rays would look good..so would a pack of endi's...dont think they are amazon though...not sure.

A ray would fill out the bottom nicely, but the mid and upper level of the tank needs something more. If you truly want to stay SA then one or two boulengerella sp. and a school of 5-6 red hook silver dollars would go well with what you have. If you are willing to include Central American cichlids, then a single vieja or parachromis would look good in there as well.

Thanks for all the info guys. I love the idea of the Red Hook's - need to find out how compatable they are with plants.

Blacktip - I'm not familiar with the fish you mention so will spend some time looking them up, appreciate the advice.

Those boulengerella fit the bill perfect. Now I need to see if I can source some in Canada.
