Ok so ive always really liked the hondo jags and i know i would really enjoy their personality especially when larger but im not totally sure if im ready to dedicate my only tank to just a pair (and whatever they will let survive of the non-cichlids) but i have also always liked the look of a nice severum/geo tank and i wouldnt have to worry about aggression issues that much with this tank either but i dont know if my tank is large enough to house a proper school of geos? and what kind would you suggest, right now rapps has some altifrons and red heads that i would be interested in, can i mix them? like get 1 or 2 altifrons and mix them with the red heads and they all stay together? and how many could i keep with 3 severums, and the bottom dwellers i already have (and maybe some serpae or lemon tetras) i do 50-70% water changes a week and have some plants in the tank as well so i dont think nitrates would be an issue... or feel free to throw out some suggestions i just really want something different, im not happy with the stock right now, i was happy with my argentea and the angels but then of course i had to mess with it and 4 of the angels caught something and died leaving the big one by himself so im taking this as a sign i should try angels another time when i can dedicate a tank to just them

What size is the tank? Personally I would not mix the geo's. Get a group of one or the other if that is what you decide that you want.

I have geos, sev, nic, ebjd, and sd in my 125 and its quite entertaining. Everyone is a little territorial but harmless, so you get a bit of chasing and gill flaring but no war wounds. Though if I could get another 6' tank, it would definitely have a jag.

i chose the hondo jags but i think the second option is better in ways..

My vote is for the Hondo Jags. I've raised large Jags before and their personalities are very entertaining, especially when breeding. The Severum stocking sounds good too. There are some very beautiful Severums and Geos to choose from. You have a tough decision but either one will look very nice. Those Jags are just hard to beat!

its in my signature its a 5ft 120g, and only reason i suggested mixing them was that i really like the altifrons but rapps only has larger ones for sale right now and i cant really afford to buy a full school of them right now at that larger size, i like the red heads as well and he is selling smaller juvies of them right now so i could afford to get them but probably only a couple of the altifrons, and no geos are available in my area so any new ones i would want to buy would have to be ordered, do you think just 1-2 altifrons would be ok for a couple months until he gets in smaller ones and i could order more?

and yeah thanks for all your thoughts guys its soo hard to make a decision because they are two totally different set-ups lol i know i would like the personality of the jags but i did really like my tank when i had the school of serpaes with my angels and argentea, i liked all of the motion of the tank and how they stayed together in the middle of the water column.... ugh i soo wish i could have more tanks but its just not in the cards right now lol soo many fish sooo little space:irked:

nobody have any other thoughts? at the moment im kind of leaning towards severums and geos but how many can i comfortably fit in my tank of either the surinamensis, altifrons or red heads? (with surinamensis and altifrons being higher in the ranking of geos i like) and is there anyone with notatus right now for sale? rapps has some rotkeil which i want but nobody seems to have any nice notatus or efasciatus

4 or 5 altifrons or surnamesis with 1 or 2 severum or 8 tapajos with 2 severum
