I am new to Africans, I have done a lot of reading but that doesn't help with everything. Right now I have an all male tank going and was wondering if I should try adding any females and would I even have room for any females or would this cause issue's? It is a 90 gallon running 2 aquaclear 110's. Here are the boys...

Cyrtocara moorii-Blue dolphin
Protomelas taeniolatus -red empress
Aulonocara stuartgranti (Kande Is.)-yellow jack
Altolamprologus calvus (Black)
Xystichromis phytophagus-christmas fulu
Haplochromis sp. "Thick Skin-obliqueden

If I can and should add any females which one's should I get females for and how many of each?

Thanks for the help.

Adding females to the group will cause the agression levels to spike. Some of those males might get a whole lot more viscious once there are fems int he tank. I would advise you to stick with the all-male setup.

What are the quantities of each that you have in there. If it is one of each then you should have room for more males.

Yes, I only have 1 of each.

You could most likely add a few more males in there. I would watch your water quality. Filtration is what is going to limit the number of fish you can have. with tons of filtration, you can have a ton of fish in there.

Stick w/ males.

I'm impressed with the mixture of fish. But as everyone else is saying add more males and no females. By the way you know that red empress can get huge!

If I decided to try breeding what would you recommend I keep and what would you get rid of? Just looking for opinions. If I decided to stay the all male route what would you add?

If you want to breed. 86 the Calvus as they will eat the fry with a vengence. When breeding, if you are worried about hybridization, you should go with species only. As far as what to breed is up to you.

If you stay all male, they pick one of three; mbuna, victorians, or peacocks/haps.
Check out www.cichlidforum.com/profiles for suggestion on each of these.

One thing I have learned is u never know till u try in this hobby. I have females in all my tanks(20). It def makes the males color better for sure. You will have aggression during mating time but as long as you only have one male of each it usually isint to bad. I over filter and stock my tanks so that helps as well. If u have mutilple tanks it does help to have the option to move fish around but if not u are always taking a chance. The red empress would most likely be the nastyist.
