Well pretty soon I plan on getting 4 F0 juvie oscars from rapps whenever he gets them in, in hope to eventually have a pair. I had these questions:

Is a 120 big enough to house all 4 untill I eventually get rid of 2?

How long do oscars take to mature and aprox. how long should a pair hopefully pop up?

Can anyone suggest a catfish/bottom dweller for when I just have the 2 in the tank that won't get eaten/get too big?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!

As long as you are very well filtered and keep up on your tank husbandry/water changes you should be ok, more is better of course but I understand that this tank is for 2 fish and not 4

I Have heard of Oscar's pairing up at as little as 8-9" but I would expect to see them truly pairing around 1 year or 10-12". Every fish is different though, I had 2 Oscars (no idea they were male and female)together in the same tank for over 2 years before they started to spawn. If this is the case, then you may run into problems with the 120.

Can anyone suggest a catfish/bottom dweller for when I just have the 2 in the tank that won't get eaten/get too big?
There are plenty of catfish types that can easily live with O's, my personal favorite would be Plecos, not just the commons as they get huge but some that stay smaller 8-10" range, blue phantoms come to mind. The major downfall with Plecos as you may know is the fact that they are poop factories.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!
Have fun!

4 small oscars should be fine in a 120 for a little while with very good filtration as they will be little piggies. Oscars mature at around 8-10" or 1-2 years old. At this point they will be in their "teenage phase" you might see a pair off as soon as 1 year with usually th actual time from that to the spawn will be a few months to a year later. You might get lucky and they will drop their tubes at a smaller size like 7-9" making them easier to vent and sex.

I've had my Oscar for over a year now. Huge. Never laid eggs, so I'm beginning to assume it's a he. My Jag who I've had equally as long and is slightly smaller has laid eggs three times already. So I'm not sure if Oscars are slow to mature sexually or if I indeed have a male. I'm keeping singletons, so I have no idea about pairing off. Sorry.

Jags mature alot younger than oscars. Like i said a 10-12" oscar should be mature but they reach this size at 1 year which still might be too early.
