Hi all my second post this time im having trouble with keeping a pleco in my tank. In my previous post i stated i have 1 oscar, 1 green terror, and one flowerhorn in 100g tank all the are between 4-6.5 inches. So the tank has been running for a couple months and algae has starting to build mainly cause i leave the light on for a bit to show the tank off :naughty:. But anyway about three weeks ago i purchased a albino pleco (bristlenose) to help and three days later he was found dead. So i figure i brought him to small only being about 2" so i purchased another one this time 4". He did fine until today i did my cleaning and cant find him at all. Last time i saw him for sure was 3 days ago. Im assuming he's being eaten by the other fish, cant be starvation i gave him wafers( actually seen him eat a wafer) and had plenty of algae for him to eat. So my question is what should i do, should i get another type of algae eater? Do i just need a bigger pleco and if so how big?? Any suggestion on a more eye attractive looking algae eater other than a brown bristlenose??

I think u need to re-exampine if u really need a pleco.. there are certain things you need to understand before you get a pleco..

Plecos do not only survive on algae alone.. thats more like slime in glass.. Algae walfers are also not enough... Plecos eat veggies.. Cucumbers, greens, spinach, zucchinis...

Secondly, Plecos of any kind prefer to hid during day time, and feed in the night time. They require hiding places like flowerpot or driftwoods, Some species requires driftwood more than others..

In addition, your have cichlids that can be aggressive towards plecos, FH and GT.... Most likely your new pleco was eaten by one of the ciclids.. since the pleco you got is 2inches.. You can get something bigger if you want.
But i would rethink about it.. I'LL be best if you post pics of your 100 gallon along with the decorations or gravel type you have in your tank..

I think at the moment.. if u add anything smaller than 3" i'll be eaten by the Cichlids..
Use planetcatfish.com for more info on pleco care.. or search on MFK about plecos..

I have drift would and even several log looking ornaments for them to hide inside. And i read they the feed i night so i tried not to drop the wafer until late at night when the other fish are sleep. I know food wasnt a problem cause i seen the last one eat wafers and even went after fish food as weird as that sounds. I just need to know how big of a pleco do i need to keep himself alive?? And any suggestion on a unique and eye appealing pleco??

There are appealing pleco.. but their not cheap... especially the ones that are big enough against ur Cichlids....

If you want nice ones.. your looking at average $20-$75 for the exotic plecos... I highly recommend you do research if you want one.. planetcatfish.com

Your pleco of choice should be at least 4" or bigger. i think i mention that..
L-128, L-200, L-190, L-83, are more of ur common ones in LFS that u can find and are fancy plecos..
U can try Snookn21 MFK vendor who supplies a GREAT selection on fancy plecos..

But their not cheap.. i would not advice u getting into the fancy when u have cichlids that kill.. and you need some experience in the regular pleco...

I'd say get a cheap albino pleco at 5" plus and start slow..

Thanks a whole lot I went and got a 5" albino and hasn't been bother By the other fish at all. and actually doesn't hide at all....
