I will be leaving town for the week for about 7 days, and have never had to do this since ive had an aquarium!

So for the concern of my tank (several guppies, platys, zebra danio, rubber lipped catfish, and some fry), my girlfriend purchased this feeding product that says to feed for up to ten days.

The product is called Wardley Vacation Food, looks like a white sea shell type thing.

Anyone had any luck with these things, will the fish be good with this?

Also, is it ok to leave the light on for seven days, or off for seven days???

Thanks for the advice in advance!

Before you leave I would recommend leaving the light off. Feed your fish 3 times a day before leaving for one week. The Vacations food has all the same ingredients normal fish food would carry the only deferens is it dissolves releasing small amount of food at a time. I would disregarded any changing of ph or temp the product my advise. If you feed them a sim-heavy meal before you leave and drop the the Wardley Vactions food in you should be ok. If it’s only for 7 days you should be fine. have fun.

If you have a small tank say 20 gallons or less DO NOT use the 10 day feeder and use the 3 day feeder instead. It is far more detrimental to your fish to overfeed and dirty up your tank then to underfeed them for a couple days! You will not believe how many people come into work saying they went out of town for a week and threw in a 7 day feeder and come back to an extremly nasty tank and even dead fish.

Your fish are quite resilient, the ones you are keeping should be ok if you feed them heavy before you leave and just not feed them with a vacation tab. As to the lights, if you have plants it is bad to leave the lights on constantly, and also bad for them not to get at least 12 hours of light a day. The maximum is about 15 hours a day. If you don't have live plants, then just leave the light off.

i agree just feed well before your trip and leave the lights off or get a 5 dollar timer for them if you have plants
:iagree:

And a timer is a must anyways! Once you have one, you wouldn't want to miss it :D

My only concern with leaving would be the fry. They need to feed pretty often. When using the vacation feeders make sure you have it in an area of the tank where water is passing over it or it will not disolve. If you have an undergravel filter attached to a powerhead you should be fine there. I have used those automatic feeders that drop in food, the trick there is to get it a few days early and let it run while you are there to test it. If your going to use an automatic feeder go ahead and feed minimaly to reduce the risk of your water going bad.
